Describing the verdict as “misinformed, biased, and lacking evidence,” the PDP urged its outright dismissal.

The Federal Court of Canada upheld a decision by the Immigration Appeal Division to deny asylum to Douglas Egharevba, a former member of both parties, citing alleged involvement in political violence, subversion of democracy, and electoral bloodshed. Former NNPC communications officer Olufemi Soneye warned the ruling could have far-reaching consequences, including increased scrutiny and visa denials for Nigerians abroad. He called it a dangerous precedent that could undermine democracy and be used to silence opposition.

The PDP called on democratic nations to focus on individual accountability rather than sweeping accusations that could erode civil liberties and political participation.
