Adanma Luke Appeals for Forgiveness over Junior Pope’s Death: “I’m Gradually Losing My Life, Please Forgive Me”
Nollywood actress and producer Adanma Luke has made a heartfelt plea for forgiveness from Nigerians following the tragic boat accident in April that claimed the lives of actor John Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, and four others.
In a recent video posted on Instagram, Luke expressed deep sorrow and regret over the incident, which occurred while filming the movie “The Other Side of Life,” produced by Luke. She revealed that she has been struggling with severe depression since the accident and feels that her life is falling apart.
Luke addressed the criticism she has faced online, stating, “I’m just here to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Nigerians. I’m sorry I took away your loved ones. I’m very sad. Although I try to stay strong, I feel utterly devastated by what happened on my set. I’m not God, and while such tragedies are beyond anyone’s control, I can’t help but question why it had to happen to me.”
The actress also spoke about her ongoing battle with depression, noting that she has been unable to work or engage with her industry contacts since the incident. She refuted claims of taking a vacation, explaining that she has been in seclusion and focusing on supporting the families of the deceased.
Luke further described the circumstances surrounding the boat accident, clarifying that she had requested a safer location for filming. She was assured by her team that the area was secure and that the lack of life jackets was standard practice for the region.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria has imposed a temporary ban on actors working with Luke following the accident. Luke concluded her video with a plea for understanding and forgiveness, emphasizing the emotional toll the incident has taken on her.
