“I Contemplated Suicide After My Colleague’s Death” – Adanma Luke

Actress and filmmaker Adanma Luke has opened up about her struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts following the tragic death of her colleague, Junior Pope Odonwodu, who drowned on her movie set in April.

In a heartfelt social media post, Luke revealed that the incident left her in a dark place, grappling with immense grief, criticism, and the weight of her mental health challenges. She shared how support from her senior colleague, Uche Nancy, played a crucial role in helping her navigate those difficult times.

Luke recounted that during her lowest moments, she reached out to Nancy, who offered not only financial assistance but also emotional encouragement. Nancy’s words gave her the strength to hold on, despite feeling overwhelmed by the tragedy and the backlash she faced.

“Uche Nancy spoke to me as if she was in my shoes and gave me reasons to stay alive and strong. Her kindness and support lifted my soul at a time when I was contemplating suicide,” Luke wrote.

The actress also disclosed that her mental health struggles led her to stop breastfeeding her three-month-old baby. Feeling consumed by sadness and depression, she handed her child to her mother to avoid passing on her distress. She described this period as deeply isolating, marked by criticism from the deceased’s family and online fans.

Luke expressed gratitude to Uche Nancy, calling her a “beautiful soul” who went above and beyond to ensure her well-being. “Please help me say a kind prayer for @uchenancy,” she wrote. “She didn’t just help me financially but also made sure I’m doing okay till now. May God continue to bless her richly.”
