Yul Edochie Reveals Why He Skipped Junior Pope’s Burial
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has opened up about his absence from the burial of his late colleague, Junior Pope, attributing his decision to repeated betrayals by the deceased.
Edochie, who has recently proclaimed himself a pastor, took to social media on Tuesday to explain his reasons for not attending the burial. He revealed that despite considering Junior Pope a brother, he was repeatedly backstabbed by him.
“I didn’t want to say anything till after his burial,” Edochie wrote. “I know many asked why I wasn’t there and why I haven’t said anything about it since. I took him like a brother and good friend. I was there for him when he needed me. But he stabbed me in the back, repeatedly. That’s life!”
While Edochie did not divulge specific incidents of betrayal, he promised to share more details soon, hoping others could learn from his experience. He also warned his followers about the repercussions of their actions, stating, “Be careful what you wish people, it could come to you.”
Edochie’s post has sparked a wave of backlash from Nigerians, many of whom expressed their disappointment and questioned his actions, especially given his recent claims of being a pastor. One Instagram user, Atuanya Chigozie, advised, “You have to let go of all that… One needs to move forward in life and forget the past.”
Others criticized Edochie for holding grudges, with Official Salma commenting, “How do you talk about not posting anything regarding his death or attending his funeral because you’re not on good terms with him? How? Unfollowing you asap, your heart is too dark.”
Ben Kingsley questioned Edochie’s commitment to his faith, asking, “I thought you’re a pastor. What happened to forgiveness?” Another user, Urazie Maureen, noted, “Sir Yul, even in death, you’re still holding grudges, yet you want your wife to forgive you.”
Earlier this year, Edochie launched his online ministry, True Salvation Ministry, and conducted his first virtual service on YouTube. During the session, he shared his spiritual journey and a life-altering car accident that led him to fully embrace his calling to serve God and humanity.
Edochie’s revelations continue to stir conversations, with many urging him to practice the forgiveness he preaches.
