PDP: Court Adjourns Suits Seeking to Stop Secondus, Omehia from NEC, BOT Meetings
A Federal High Court in Abuja has set April 16 for the hearing of a suit aimed at preventing former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Uche Secondus from participating in the party’s meetings. Justice Inyang Ekwo also scheduled the hearing of a separate suit for the same day, which seeks to stop former Rivers State governor Celestine Omehia from attending the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
The suit against Secondus, filed by PDP member Titus Jones from Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area, is marked FHC/ABJ/CS/440/2024. The 1st to 8th defendants include Secondus; PDP; acting PDP Chairman Umar Damagun; PDP Secretary Samuel Anyanwu; PDP NEC; PDP National Working Committee (NWC); PDP Board of Trustees (BoT); and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Jones’ legal counsel, Joshua Musa, SAN, seeks to restrain the NEC, NWC, party chairman, secretary, and BoT from allowing Secondus to attend any meetings while his suspension from the party is under consideration.
Meanwhile, Precious Wobisike, a member of PDP at Ubima Ward 8, Ikwerre LGA, filed a separate suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/436/24) against Omehia, PDP, Damagun, Anyanwu, NEC, and INEC. Wobisike seeks to restrain Omehia from requesting or receiving notices of NEC meetings and from participating in such meetings.
Wobisike further requests injunctions preventing Anyanwu from notifying Omehia of NEC meetings and INEC from acknowledging reports, proceedings, or resolutions reached at NEC meetings attended by Omehia.
Justice Ekwo had previously granted ex-parte motions on April 5 that restrained Secondus and Omehia from participating in party meetings. As the matters were called, defense representatives requested more time to regularize their court documents due to recent public holidays.
Justice Ekwo agreed to the adjournment, rescheduling both suits for hearing on April 16.
