Ondo 2024: Mimiko’s Aides and Associates Join APC
A significant political shift occurred in Ondo State today as 29 key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), just months before the governorship election on November 16. This decision was detailed in a joint statement titled “We Have Joined the APC,” signed by the defectors.
Notably, among those defecting are several influential figures from Olusegun Mimiko’s eight-year administration, including Mrs. Jumoke Akindele, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and three former House of Representatives members: Joseph Akinlaja, Victor Akinjo, and Chief Alaba Ojomo.
The statement explains their reasons for defecting, highlighting their desire to support Hon Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa’s governorship candidacy, contribute to the state’s ongoing prosperity and peace, and back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address national challenges and promote peace, equity, and progress.
The group also emphasized their intention to encourage more colleagues and associates to join the APC, signaling a growing wave of support for the party. Plans for an official welcome program for the new APC members will be announced soon.
