Nigerian Army Releases 230 Detainees Cleared of Boko Haram Affiliation
The Nigerian military has liberated 230 individuals suspected of ties with Boko Haram. The group comprises 219 males and 11 females, all of whom underwent thorough profiling.
According to a reliable source within the military, these detainees were deemed innocent after investigations revealed they were forcibly conscripted and not associated with terrorist activities.
Today, the 230 cleared individuals were transferred to the Borno state government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for their reintegration into society.
Nigeria continues to grapple with various security challenges, including armed criminality in the northwest and the persistent threat of jihadist insurgency in the northeast, which has resulted in significant casualties and displacement over the years.
Both Boko Haram and its rival faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have targeted civilians in their attacks, often accusing them of collaborating with security forces. Despite territorial losses, militants still pose a threat, carrying out sporadic attacks, kidnappings, and raids in remote areas, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the country.
