Photos: Army Strikes Alleged IPOB/ESN Strongholds, Recovers Explosive Device and Ransom Funds

Troops under Operation EASTERN SANITY have conducted coordinated operations across parts of the South-East, targeting suspected IPOB/ESN locations and criminal networks, according to military authorities.

On 14 April 2026, joint forces from Sector 1, with air support from Operation UDO KA, carried out a clearance mission in Ajali Forest, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The operation led to the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED), described by the Army as anti-tank, which was reportedly abandoned by fleeing suspects. Military engineers secured the device without incident.

Following the operation, troops continued clearance activities in the area, dismantling makeshift shelters and other structures believed to have been used as hideouts.

In a separate intelligence-led operation the same day, personnel of the 82 Division Garrison in Adani, Uzo-Uwani LGA, acted on information from the Department of State Services (DSS) to track a suspected kidnapping syndicate. A suspect was arrested during the operation.

The Army reported the recovery of a pump-action firearm and ₦2 million in cash, which it said was linked to ransom payments. The suspect and recovered items have been transferred to relevant authorities for further investigation.

Military officials stated that the operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt armed groups and criminal networks operating in the region.
