“Soldiers Guard Cows, Failed to Confront Our Attackers” – Bokkos Woman Alleges Military Inaction During Plateau Killings

A survivor of the April 9 attack in Mbwelle village, Kwatas district of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, has accused security forces of failing to respond during the assault that left more than 20 people dead, including eight members of her family.

The allegation was made in a video shared on social media by conflict journalist Kim Masara Usman, where the woman gave a detailed account of the incident.

She said armed attackers invaded the community and opened fire for over two hours while residents repeatedly called troops under Operation Ensuring Peace for help. According to her, no intervention came during the attack despite the proximity of a military unit stationed nearby.

The woman claimed her relatives were among those killed in the assault, describing the incident as devastating for her household and the wider community.

She also alleged that after the attackers withdrew, they moved into a nearby settlement and that a military gun truck was later seen positioned in that area, a detail she said raised further concern among residents.

The military authorities have not responded publicly to the allegations, and the claims remain unverified.

The attack adds to a growing number of violent incidents reported in parts of Plateau State in recent weeks, intensifying concerns over security response in affected communities.
