Police Confirm Death of Suspected Cult Leader in Lagos Shooting
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of Adedipe Adeyinkan, a suspected member of the Buccaneer Confraternity, also known as the Brothers Across Nigeria (BAN), following a late-night shooting in Lagos.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday on the National Stadium Bridge inward Iponri. In a statement released on Sunday, police said Adeyinkan, widely known as “Agali,” was attacked at the scene and later taken to hospital.
“The Command is aware of the shooting incident involving Adedipe Adeyinkan, popularly known as ‘Agali,’ which occurred on April 11, 2026,” the statement said. “The victim was rushed to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the attack or identified any suspects. No arrests have been announced.
Unverified reports circulating on social media suggest Adeyinkan may have held a prominent position within the Buccaneers confraternity in the Surulere area. Some of the claims link the killing to a possible rivalry between cult groups and allege political connections. Police have not confirmed these claims.
Video footage from the scene shows the victim inside a white SUV as bystanders gathered nearby shortly after the shooting.
The incident comes amid renewed concern over cult-related violence in parts of Lagos. In a separate case last week, three men were reportedly killed in the Lagos Island area after attending a birthday gathering in the Epetedo community. According to local accounts, the victims were attacked while returning home, with one person said to have escaped.
Police have yet to confirm details of that incident or establish any connection between the two cases.
