One Dead as Gunmen Raid Imo Community
Tragedy struck Awomamma in Oru-West Local Government Area of Imo State as gunmen unleashed terror, claiming the life of a 34-year-old youth on Monday.
Reports indicate that the victim fell to gunfire when hoodlums, riding in a Sienna vehicle, descended upon the community.
In a heart-wrenching video circulating online, the lifeless body of the deceased was seen being transported on a wheelbarrow through the distraught community, while mourners lamented the senseless loss.
“What have we done to deserve this?” cried one elder. “This boy lying here is neither a thief nor an armed robber. Our children are not criminals. He was merely going to buy bread when he was gunned down. What wrong has he committed?”
The community, reeling from repeated attacks, implored the government to intervene urgently.
“This is not the first nor the second time our community is being attacked. What have they found in our midst that they won’t let us be at peace?” questioned another resident.
“We plead with the government to come to our aid as our youths are being slaughtered daily.”
Sources within the community alleged that the assailants were members of a local security network, ominously present throughout their village.
Urging authorities to disband the group, they feared further bloodshed if action isn’t taken swiftly.
Efforts to reach Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police, proved futile as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
