UNIBEN Part-Time Student Shot Dead Near Ugbowo Campus Gate
A part-time student of University of Benin has been shot dead inside his vehicle close to the main gate of the institution’s Ugbowo campus.
The incident occurred on Sunday, though the exact circumstances remain unclear. Eyewitness details have not been fully established, and authorities are still working to determine what led to the shooting.
A video shared online shows the scene shortly after the attack, with the victim inside the vehicle near the campus entrance.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the student had just completed his semester examinations before the incident. This has not been verified by university officials.
The university management has distanced the institution from the killing, indicating that early assessments point to a possible cult-related incident occurring outside campus control.
In a statement, the school expressed concern over the development and urged students and staff to remain calm while continuing academic activities without disruption. It also reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety within the campus environment.
The Edo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of reporting.
