LP Condemns NLC’s Proposed Stakeholders Meeting as Illegal

The Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Julius Abure, has vehemently opposed a scheduled stakeholders meeting organized by the Political Commission of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), dismissing it as an “illegal jamboree” orchestrated by “drama boys.”

In a response to a circulating invitation letter to the event slated for Monday, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, rebuked the organizers, labeling them as “attention seekers” who lack authority.

“It has come to the knowledge of the leadership of the Labour Party of a letter of invitation trending in some sections of the media purportedly written by some desperate characters in the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC inviting some Nigerians to an illegal stakeholders meeting scheduled to hold on Monday, in Abuja, wherein they propose to appoint a caretaker committee for the Labour Party,” Ifoh stated.

He further emphasized the illegitimacy of the meeting, asserting, “This meeting being organized by some drama boys and attention-seeking personalities in the NLC is illegal as we have not authorized it and it is not supported by any law in the land and therefore its outcome, a nullity.”

Ifoh criticized the NLC’s priorities, highlighting their silence on recent governmental actions while swiftly moving to convene an “unlawful meeting” with disgruntled non-party members.

“We are calling on the law enforcement agencies to rise up to the occasion and abort this gathering which may likely degenerate to public nuisance,” he added.

Furthermore, LP asserted its independence from the NLC, stating firmly, “NLC does not have any proprietary right over the Labour Party and therefore cannot continue to lay claim to its ownership.”

The LP urged genuine party members to disregard the meeting, signaling their firm stance against what they perceive as an unauthorized and illegitimate gathering.
