JUST IN: Reps Member Joshua Obika Defects from Labour Party to APC
Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, the member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory, has defected from the Labour Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The defection was announced during plenary on Wednesday, March 11, when the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read Obika’s letter notifying the chamber of his decision.
Obika currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Library, Research and Documentation.
In his notice to the House, the lawmaker attributed his departure from the Labour Party to the ongoing internal crisis within the party. He said the dispute has created factions and affected its cohesion.
According to him, the situation informed his decision to align with the APC.
Obika also expressed support for the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and its Renewed Hope agenda.
His move adds to a series of defections recorded in the House of Representatives in recent months.
