“Peter Obi Failed the Test of Leadership in Labour Party; APC Has More Serious Leaders” — Ozigbo

Valentine Ozigbo, who left the Labour Party (LP) in February last year, has criticized his former ally, Peter Obi, for failing to strengthen the party into a credible opposition force.

In an interview with SYMFONY YouTube TV, Ozigbo said he found the LP’s internal politics frustrating and felt “sacrificed” in party processes. He singled out Obi for what he described as a leadership shortfall, citing the party’s losses in various states.

“I was hoping the Labour Party could be an alternative, but my experience showed that some in leadership, including Peter Obi, failed to galvanize the party,” Ozigbo said.

He explained that his move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by a desire to work with what he calls “politically serious people.” Ozigbo acknowledged shortcomings within the APC but emphasized the opportunity to influence party conduct positively.

“The only person that could have led Labour to win was me. I was literally sacrificed in party congresses, and that made me question the seriousness of those around me. I realized I could achieve more in the APC,” he stated.

Attempts to reach Obi’s team for comment were unsuccessful.

The Labour Party has faced ongoing internal disputes, while Obi formally joined the African Democratic Congress coalition at the end of 2025.
