Federal High Court Dismisses ADC’s Kachikwu Suit Over Party Leadership
The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by former African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu and others, challenging the party’s leadership and internal operations.
ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi described the ruling as a win for democracy and the autonomy of political parties. In a statement, he said the court affirmed that issues relating to party leadership and membership are internal matters and not subject to judicial intervention.
“Today, the Federal High Court dismissed the suit filed by Dumebi Kachikwu and others against the ADC, confirming that matters of party leadership and membership are non-justiciable,” Abdullahi said. He encouraged Nigerians who had been hesitant to engage with the party to join and contribute to strengthening the opposition.
The ruling follows protests by ADC members outside the court, who had demanded that Justice Joyce Abdulmalik recuse herself from cases involving the party, citing perceived bias. Demonstrators carried placards calling for impartiality and the reassignment of the case.
With the dismissal of Kachikwu’s suit, the ADC leadership says the matter is now settled, reinforcing the principle that internal party disputes should be resolved without court interference. Observers expect the decision to influence the party’s internal dynamics as it prepares for future political contests against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
