Anambra ADC Backs David Mark Leadership Despite Peter Obi’s Exit

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State have reaffirmed their commitment to the party and its national leadership, despite the departure of former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Obi, an indigene of Anambra State, recently left the ADC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a move that triggered reactions within the state chapter of the party.

Speaking after a leadership consultative meeting in Awka, ADC leaders in Anambra said the chapter remains aligned with the national leadership led by Senator David Mark and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

Dr. Ndubuisi Nwosu, the ADC deputy governorship candidate in the November 2025 Anambra governorship election, said party stakeholders resolved to remain in the ADC and continue preparations ahead of future elections.

According to him, while the party regrets Obi’s exit alongside some of his supporters, members in the state remain focused on strengthening the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nwosu also praised former ADC National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, for his role in positioning the party as a platform for political coalition-building.

“The state leaders of our party have reaffirmed their loyalty and support to the national leadership headed by Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola,” he said.

He added that Anambra remains central to the history and future of the ADC, stressing that the state chapter would continue working toward the party’s electoral success.

Nwosu further stated that members who left the party were not considered enemies, expressing hope that political actors with similar interests would eventually work together to address governance challenges in the country.
