Lagos Court Clears Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy in Mohbad’s Death Case

The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, has cleared Nigerian singer Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, along with music promoter Samson Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, and Owodunni Ibrahim, alias Primeboy, of any involvement in the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, delivering the ruling on Tuesday, cited legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), which stated that the three had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s demise. Also exonerated was the late singer’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.

However, the DPP has recommended prosecution for auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated Mohbad before his death, and one of the late singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq. Both are to face trial at the Magistrate Court for reckless and negligent acts, contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Mohbad passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, leading to widespread public outrage and calls for justice. His death sparked protests across Nigeria, with fans demanding accountability, as past videos and social media testimonies surfaced, alleging harassment and threats against him.

Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command arrested Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy, and others while awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
