JUST IN: Soldiers Currently Engaged in Heavy Gun Duel with Unknown Gunmen in Abia
A heavy gunfight is currently underway between soldiers of the Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade, Ohafia, and unidentified gunmen in Mbata, Umuchima village, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to reports, the confrontation began early this morning when over 15 military vehicles, including armored personnel carriers, arrived at the community. The operation is said to be targeting suspected gunmen allegedly camped near a river marking the boundary between Abia State and the Mbaise area of Imo State.
Eyewitnesses have reported that soldiers have cordoned off key junctions leading into and out of the village while exchanging gunfire with the gunmen in nearby bushes. The sound of gunshots continues to echo through the area as the situation unfolds.
Authorities, including the Nigerian Army and the Abia State government, have yet to release official statements regarding the incident. The development comes shortly after Governor Alex Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving security in the state during a meeting with top security officials.
