Man accused of killing woman in Abia found dead in bush
A security operative, Mr. Chinedu Anamelechi, who allegedly killed a woman in Amakama, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has been found dead in a bush days after a manhunt was launched for him.
Residents of Amakama said his body was discovered on Saturday, three days after community youths and operatives of the Abia State Police Command began searching for him following the incident.
Anamelechi was accused of shooting a woman, Ezinne Ariwodo, last Wednesday. He was also said to have injured a youth who attempted to intervene and stabbed another woman before fleeing the scene.
The Abia State Police Command had earlier confirmed the recovery of the body of the deceased woman and the rescue of the injured victims.
While security agencies have not issued a formal statement on Anamelechi’s death or its cause, some residents of the community believe he took his own life to avoid arrest and prosecution.
Police authorities are yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the discovery of his body.
