Gas Company MD Arrested for Damaging New Road in Umuahia
The Managing Director of a gas company has been apprehended by the Abia State government following the destruction of a manhole and pedestrian walkway on the newly constructed 6-lane Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard in Umuahia. This development was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, at a briefing held at the Government House in Umuahia.
Kanu condemned the deliberate vandalism of public infrastructure and emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance stance on such actions. He urged communities, traditional rulers, and youth groups to actively protect government property.
“The state government is committed to investing billions of Naira in infrastructure for the benefit of our citizens, and we cannot stand idly by while these assets are maliciously destroyed,” Kanu stated.
He expressed disappointment that such destructive actions undermine the government’s efforts to transform Umuahia and Aba into modern smart cities.
Further details were provided by Mr. Kingsley Agomoh, General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Agency (UCDA), who revealed that over 15 manholes have been damaged along the Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard. Agomoh condemned the act as intolerable and a severe blow to public infrastructure.
