“Declaration of War Against Rivers State” – APC Chieftain Condemns Supreme Court Ruling, Congratulates Fubara

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has strongly criticized the Supreme Court ruling on the ongoing State Assembly crisis, calling it a major setback for Nigeria’s democracy. He described the decision as a “Black Friday” and a “declaration of war” against Rivers State and the judiciary.

Eze also commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for standing firm despite the political turmoil, praising him for his resilience against what he termed “anti-democratic forces.”

The Supreme Court, in its ruling, ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt the release of funds to the Rivers State government until a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place. Additionally, the court directed Martin Amaewhule to resume legislative duties alongside other elected lawmakers.

Reacting to the ruling, Eze expressed disappointment, arguing that the court overlooked the fact that the Amaewhule-led lawmakers had defected to the APC, which, according to him, should have had legal consequences. He labeled the decision as undemocratic and a direct attack on the people of Rivers State.

Eze warned that the Supreme Court’s order for the CBN to withhold funds from the state government was part of a larger political plot. He alleged that these moves were intended to serve the interests of former Governor Nyesom Wike and weaken Rivers State’s economic standing. He predicted that the coming days would reveal further attempts to remove Governor Fubara from office.

Meanwhile, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stated that Governor Fubara had committed an impeachable offense. Wike argued that it was unprecedented for just three lawmakers to claim authority over the legislative process in the state. He also said the Supreme Court’s ruling marked the end of what he called “impunity” in Rivers politics.

Despite the court’s decision, the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers asserted that Governor Fubara would continue leading the state’s affairs.
