Peter Obi also defected from ANPP, APGA to PDP; I’d like to welcome him to APC – Valentine Ozigbo

Former Anambra State governorship candidate and ex-member of the Labour Party (LP), Valentine Ozigbo, has said he would welcome Peter Obi to the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the former LP presidential candidate chooses to join. Ozigbo, who recently defected from LP to the ruling APC, made the statement during an interview on *Politics Today* on Channels Television.

Ozigbo, once a key supporter of Obi’s 2023 presidential bid, emphasized that Obi has a history of switching political parties. He recalled Obi’s political journey from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), then the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later LP. He suggested that Obi would likely not run for president under LP in the next election, hinting at potential political realignments.

“I can almost guarantee that if Peter Obi wishes to run for election again, it’s not going to be under the Labour Party,” Ozigbo said. “Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve been privy to a lot of discussions around coalitions, and I can say with confidence that LP is not the future.”

Ozigbo cited internal crises within LP as a major factor in his decision to leave. He claimed to have informed Obi and other party stakeholders before making the move, describing his exit as a necessary step due to what he called a “flawed” internal structure in the party. He recounted how he personally visited LP’s leadership to bid farewell before officially joining APC.

Despite LP’s strong performance in the 2023 election, the party has been plagued by internal divisions, leading to defections. Ozigbo’s departure has further fueled speculation about the future of LP and Obi’s next political move.
