Court Adjourns Arraignment of Nnewi Native Doctor Over Health Concerns
The arraignment of Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afulu Anya,” was stalled on Friday at the Anambra State High Court in Awka over concerns about his health.
Presiding judge, Justice Jude Obiora, adjourned the matter to June 3, 2026, after ruling that the defendant was not in a condition to take his plea.
Proceedings were preceded by arguments between the prosecution and defence over Ezenagu’s health status. The prosecution team, led by Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), maintained its readiness to proceed with the case, while defence counsel, Kingsley Awuka, raised concerns over his client’s fitness to stand before the court.
Speaking with journalists after the session, Nweke said the state remained prepared to continue prosecution, while Awuka expressed optimism that the defendant would be medically fit to take his plea on the next adjourned date.
Ezenagu was arrested in Nnewi on March 12, 2026, and is facing prosecution under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law.
