“God Has Honoured Me” – Wike Celebrates Supreme Court Ruling on Rivers State
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has been seen in a viral video celebrating the Supreme Court’s ruling on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
The apex court on Friday ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation to halt financial allocations to the Rivers State government. The decision will remain in effect until Governor Sim Fubara ceases what the court described as illegal and unconstitutional activities.
The ruling further directed that state funds would not be disbursed until a lawful Appropriation Law is enacted by the Rivers House of Assembly under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, a known ally of Wike. Additionally, the Supreme Court ordered the 27 lawmakers loyal to Amaewhule to resume their legislative functions immediately.
In a unanimous decision delivered by a five-member panel led by Justice Musa Uwani Aba-Aji, the court ruled that Fubara’s administration could not legally function with only four lawmakers out of a 32-member House of Assembly. The judgment also nullified the local government elections conducted in Rivers State on October 5, 2024, declaring them illegal.
Reacting to the development, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, posted a video of the minister singing and praising God alongside former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. In the video shared on X, Wike is heard singing, *“I never knew He would honour me this way.”*
Olayinka, in his post, mocked Fubara, referring to him as the “Opobo Judas of Rivers” and claiming that the Supreme Court had affirmed Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the House of Assembly.
