“I’m Not a Native Doctor” — Wike Distances Self From Rivers APC Screening Controversy

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed suggestions that he should comment on the ongoing controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening process in Rivers State.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja on Monday, Wike said he had no involvement in the APC’s internal affairs and would not speculate on decisions taken by the party.

“I’m not a member of the APC, so I don’t know what is happening in their screening,” Wike said.

“Even if they publish the results, why would I comment? I don’t know the reasons they have.”

The former Rivers governor stressed that he would only speak on matters directly connected to him, adding that he was neither a prophet nor someone with mystical insight into the party’s decisions.

“What pertains to me is what I will talk about, not what does not concern me. I’m not a native doctor, neither am I a prophet,” he added.

Wike’s remarks come amid heightened political tension in Rivers State following the appearance of Governor Sim Fubara before the APC screening committee for governors.

Fubara reportedly walked out and declined to speak with journalists after appearing before the committee chaired by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda.

The Rivers governor had earlier failed to appear before the panel on Saturday, which was the final day scheduled for the screening of governors seeking the party’s nomination for a second term, as well as second-term governors pursuing senatorial ambitions.

However, Yilwatda later clarified that Fubara’s absence was not considered unusual, explaining that governors engaged in official state duties were permitted to complete the screening process on Sunday.
