“My Daughter Told Me to Work With Peter Obi in 2023” — Kwankwaso

Former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says his daughter advised him to form an alliance with Peter Obi during the 2023 general election.

Speaking on an Arise TV programme on Monday, Kwankwaso said many political leaders remain disconnected from young Nigerians and do not fully understand the influence of social media on political engagement.

According to him, younger Nigerians are increasingly shaping political conversations and searching for leaders they believe can address the country’s problems.

“We have leaders who hardly have any contact with young men and women,” he said.

Kwankwaso said the changing political climate was evident even within families, recalling how his daughter encouraged cooperation between him and Obi during the last election.

“Even in the 2023 election, in my own house, my own daughter was telling me to go and work with Peter Obi,” he said.

He added that his daughter did not identify as part of the “Obidient” movement but believed both politicians should collaborate.

Kwankwaso also said political support often cuts across regions and social backgrounds, with some supporters choosing not to openly identify with political groups.

The remarks come days after the Nigeria Democratic Congress reportedly zoned its presidential ticket to the South for a single four-year term.

In the 2023 presidential election, Obi contested under the Labour Party, while Kwankwaso ran on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. Obi finished third in the election, while Kwankwaso placed fourth.

Both politicians are now associated with the NDC, where discussions about a possible joint ticket ahead of future elections continue to draw attention.
