Group Rebrands #Obidient Movement, Expels Peter Obi, Yunusa Tanko Ahead of 2027 Elections

A group claiming authority over the #Obidient Movement has announced a sweeping restructuring of the organisation, including the expulsion of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and his associate Yunusa Tanko, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made on Thursday during a press briefing in Abuja, where the group also declared the dissolution of what it described as the existing leadership structure that emerged after the 2023 elections.

As part of the changes, the organisation said it has rebranded from the “#Obidient Movement” to the “#OBEDIENT Movement,” stating that the adjustment was necessary to redefine its identity and distance itself from individuals previously associated with its leadership.

Speaking at the briefing, the group’s International Coordinator, Barry Avotu Johnson, said the decision followed concerns that the movement had deviated from its founding objectives.

“The original ideals of the movement are no longer adequately represented by the persons who took over its leadership after the elections,” Johnson said.

He also announced that all appointments made under what he described as an “unauthorised leadership structure” have been revoked, adding that the group is no longer aligned with the Labour Party and has not endorsed any candidate for the 2027 elections.

According to Johnson, the restructuring was aimed at restoring what he called the movement’s original direction, which he said had been compromised after the last general election cycle.

“The movement has been taken in a direction that does not reflect its founding principles. This reorganisation is necessary to correct that course,” he added.
