“Nothing Has Changed,” Fubara Speaks on Defection Report
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed reports suggesting he has altered his political affiliation, insisting that he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress.
He addressed journalists on Wednesday after inspecting the reconstructed Rivers State Psychiatric Hospital, which has been converted into a general hospital.
Fubara said public interpretations circulating online were inaccurate and did not reflect his position.
“I’m a member of the All Progressives Congress, and nothing has changed,” he said. “People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their personal interpretation to present me wrongly. I have not gone anywhere. I remain a member of the APC.”
The governor said he had seen reports suggesting a defection or shift in loyalty, but maintained that such claims were based on speculation rather than fact.
In addition to addressing political questions, Fubara spoke on the hospital project, explaining that the decision to remodel the facility followed an earlier assessment that revealed limited access to healthcare in the area.
He noted that many residents previously depended on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for major medical services, a situation he said created distance barriers for nearby communities.
According to him, converting the former psychiatric hospital into a general hospital was aimed at expanding access to healthcare within Rumuigbo and surrounding areas.
Fubara said the completion of the project reflected a deliberate focus on infrastructure that directly affects residents’ daily needs, adding that the administration would continue prioritizing similar interventions across the state.
