2027: Atiku, Obi, Amaechi Are Our Best Campaign Managers — Oshiomhole on Divided Opposition
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has said that internal divisions among leading opposition figures will work in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole argued that disagreements among prominent opposition politicians have weakened any possibility of a unified challenge to the APC.
According to him, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi have increasingly been at odds, rather than building a coordinated political platform.
He said these tensions effectively reduce the electoral strength of the opposition.
“You mean that APC would be worried about which of the parties now… ADC? I saw Atiku. Atiku is now our best campaign manager because he is attacking Obi, and I see Obi attacking Amaechi,” Oshiomhole said.
He added that Amaechi had also been critical of both Atiku and Obi, describing them as “regional players” while positioning himself as a national figure.
Oshiomhole argued that such exchanges show a lack of cohesion among opposition leaders.
The senator also challenged the opposition to clearly outline policy alternatives if they intend to replace the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“They have to speak to the new policies that they would reverse, whether they would reverse taxation, reverse fuel subsidy removal, student loans, or reverse any of those bold decisions that President Tinubu has taken,” he said.
He maintained that opposition leaders are largely driven by shared political ambition rather than agreement on governance direction.
“The opposition can have their dreams, but they will be defeated flatly because nobody believes them,” he added.
Nigeria’s political environment is already becoming more active as parties and politicians begin positioning ahead of 2027.
Atiku, who came second in the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Amaechi are linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have also been associated with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), following disputes over the ADC structure.
Meanwhile, the APC has moved to strengthen its internal arrangements, including granting President Tinubu clearance to participate in its 2027 primary process without undergoing screening.
APC spokesperson Felix Morka said the decision was taken during the party’s 188th National Working Committee meeting, where Tinubu was deemed “duly screened” in line with party rules.
