Budget Ultimatum: PDP Issues Strong Warning to Amaewhule Led Factional Rivers Assembly, Urges IGP to Address Subversive Acts

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to the Amaewhule Led factional Rivers Assembly, urging them to refrain from actions and statements that could destabilize peace and governance in Rivers State. The former lawmakers, who lost their seats after defecting from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), have been advised to accept their current status and desist from acting as if they still hold legislative power.

The PDP emphasized that, under Section 109 (1) (g) of the Nigerian Constitution, these former lawmakers are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and therefore have no authority to issue directives to Governor Siminialayi Fubara. This statement follows a controversial seven-day ultimatum from the former lawmakers demanding the re-presentation of the already passed and signed 2024 Rivers State budget.

The PDP condemned this act, describing it as an attempt to create chaos and undermine the democratic and constitutional order in the state. The party highlighted that upon their defection from the PDP, the former lawmakers forfeited all legislative powers, rights, and privileges they once held.

In response to these developments, the PDP has called on the Inspector General of Police to take immediate action against the subversive activities of the former lawmakers to safeguard democracy, peace, and security in Rivers State.

The PDP also urged the people of Rivers State to remain vigilant and law-abiding, and to continue supporting efforts to maintain stability and deliver democratic dividends under the leadership of the PDP.
