Popular Nigerian disc jockey, Matthew Aderoju, known as DJ Splash, has made serious allegations against well-known musicians, Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley) and Zlatan. DJ Splash claims that these artists spiked his food and drinks, leading to severe health issues and an apparent attempt to ruin his life.
The allegations came to light when DJ Splash’s mother reached out to an online news blog, Gistlover, with an audio recording detailing her son’s ordeal. She accused Naira Marley of causing harm to her son after they had lived together for a period.
According to DJ Splash’s mother, the troubles began in 2021 after her son won a competition and was awarded N100,000. Subsequently, DJ Splash gained popularity among celebrities, leading to numerous show appearances. During this time, he crossed paths with Naira Marley and Zlatan, and they danced together.
Naira Marley expressed interest in having DJ Splash live and work with him, which DJ Splash’s mother initially resisted, insisting her son attend university. However, Naira Marley agreed to support his education. Still, trouble arose when DJ Splash called his mother, asking her to retrieve him from Naira Marley’s residence in Lekki, Lagos, citing a “strange ailment.”
In an interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, DJ Splash alleged that Naira Marley had consistently spiked his food and drinks, leading to his deteriorating health and the severe impact on his life. He expressed a belief that a plot was hatched by Naira Marley and others to undermine his mental well-being when he expressed an interest in pursuing music beyond DJing.
DJ Splash claimed that he overheard conversations between Naira Marley and his associates discussing their intention to make him go mad and that they had put something in his food without his knowledge. Consequently, he stopped consuming their food and began purchasing his meals.
Since leaving Naira Marley’s residence, DJ Splash’s mother revealed that her son had been in and out of hospitals, suffering memory loss and other health issues. However, he has refused to take medication unless it’s provided by Naira Marley.
In a desperate plea, DJ Splash’s mother called on Nigerians to help her in this trying time. She disclosed the financial strain she endured, selling her possessions to support her son’s medical expenses. She also mentioned that Naira Marley had not responded to her calls while her son’s health deteriorated.
These allegations follow the recent tragic death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad. Earlier, Mohbad had reported threats to his life and assault by Naira Marley and his crew. He detailed a violent altercation at Naira Marley’s house in October 2022, where he and his associates were attacked.
Additionally, Mohbad had filed a petition with the Nigerian Police Force concerning these threats and assaults, but no action had been taken. These events have raised concerns within the Nigerian music industry and ignited discussions regarding the well-being of artists and their treatment by their peers.
