Wike Reacts to Alleged 2027 Presidential Endorsement by PDP Faction

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is urging him to contest the presidency in 2027, describing the story as “another lie from idle minds.”

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, on Friday, Wike reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that his commitment remains “Tinubu till 2031.” He criticized those behind the report as individuals bent on spreading falsehoods instead of contributing to national development.

According to Olayinka, the rumor originated from an online platform “notorious for falsehood and blackmail.” He clarified that the only meeting involving PDP stakeholders took place on August 20, 2025, and was focused on internal party zoning discussions ahead of a Lagos meeting the following day. The meeting, attended by southern PDP leaders and state chairmen, had no connection to any presidential ambition attributed to Wike.

Olayinka emphasized that Wike is transparent in his actions and statements, noting that “he does not function in hiding. He does what he says, and says what he does.” He added that those circulating such stories are merely attempting to tarnish the Minister’s image.

Reiterating Wike’s position, the statement said the FCT Minister’s priority is to support President Tinubu’s administration and deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda by transforming Abuja into a world-class capital through sustained infrastructural development.

“From now till 2031, it is on the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Wike will stand,” Olayinka said, adding that the Minister remains focused on implementing the President’s vision for the Federal Capital Territory.
