“Nigerians Determined to Vote Tinubu Out in 2027 Over ‘Ruined Livelihoods’” — ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said many Nigerians are determined to remove President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 elections, blaming his administration’s policies for worsening economic conditions.
In a statement issued Friday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s interim national publicity secretary, said the president should focus on public discontent rather than dismissing opposition criticism.
According to Abdullahi, current government policies have contributed to rising hardship and declining livelihoods, adding that these concerns are shaping voter sentiment ahead of the next election cycle.
The statement was in response to remarks Tinubu made on Thursday at the State House while hosting a group of supporters. The president had said he was not intimidated by increasing political pressure, noting that he remained confident despite opposition activity.
Abdullahi described the president’s comments as out of touch with prevailing conditions across the country. He pointed to rising living costs, food inflation, and economic strain on households, arguing that these issues require urgent attention.
He also referenced ongoing security concerns, including reports of abductions, as evidence of broader challenges facing citizens. According to him, the focus on political exchanges detracts from addressing these problems.
The ADC further criticised what it described as limited access to public venues for opposition activities, stating that restrictions on such spaces could affect democratic participation.
The presidency has not issued a formal response to the ADC’s latest statement.
