Wike-aligned PDP bloc opposes coalition, threatens court action
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has dismissed any plan to enter a merger or coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling deepening divisions within the opposition party.
The group also warned that it may pursue legal action against individuals or groups using the PDP’s name to promote such alliances.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the party’s newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, National Chairman Abdulrahman Muhammed said the faction would not tolerate actions it considers unlawful or damaging to the party’s reputation.
He acknowledged the right to free expression but stressed that this does not extend to activities that could undermine the rule of law or misrepresent the party’s position.
According to him, the PDP would take “all necessary legal steps” to address conduct that could amount to contempt of court or misrepresentation.
The remarks come amid reports of engagement between another PDP bloc, led by Turaki, and officials of the ADC. The faction’s spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, described those talks as ongoing, highlighting competing strategies within the party ahead of future political alignments.
