Wike Counters August Protest Plans with Youth Mobilization Effort

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is spearheading an initiative to dissuade youths and other stakeholders from participating in the nationwide protests scheduled from August 1 to 10. These protests are organized to address concerns over hunger and economic hardship.

 

In a recent ministerial engagement with youths from Abuja South Federal Constituency in Kwali Area Council, Wike emphasized the administration’s efforts to mitigate these issues and urged against joining the upcoming demonstrations. He also plans to extend this engagement to Bwari and Gwagwalada Area Councils in the coming days.

 

A similar session was held with stakeholders in Abuja Municipal Area Council the previous day. Wike’s message focused on the detrimental effects of the protests and the administration’s achievements over the past year, arguing that it is premature to judge the government’s performance so early in its term.

 

The Minister highlighted progress in key areas such as education, health, and security, asserting that the current administration has made significant strides despite being in office for less than a year. He encouraged residents to support and commend the security agencies for their efforts, emphasizing that recent improvements in security should not be overlooked.

 

Wike stressed the importance of maintaining peace in the FCT, asserting that disruptions in the form of protests would be counterproductive. “We seek peace and cannot allow it to be compromised under the guise of protest,” he declared.
