“We Have Written to Wike for a Meeting Over Rivers Crisis,” Says PDP BoT Member

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reached out to Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, in an effort to address the ongoing crisis in Rivers State and the escalating rift between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Senator Abdul Ningi, a prominent member of the PDP BoT, voiced concerns during an appearance on a live Arise News program on Wednesday night, highlighting that certain influential figures within the party, including Wike, appear to be working against the party’s interests. Ningi emphasized that such actions are contrary to the core principles and rules of the PDP.

During the interview, Ningi disclosed that the BoT had written to Wike, requesting a meeting to discuss the situation. This move follows a recent visit by the BoT to Rivers State, where they engaged in a lengthy discussion with Governor Fubara to understand the challenges he faces and address concerns about his rumored intention to leave the party.

Ningi stated, “The BoT, being the conscience of the party, is well-positioned to undertake such critical engagements. We spent two to three hours with the governor, and we were able to grasp his perspective. We also addressed the disturbing rumors suggesting that a sitting PDP governor is considering leaving the party, which is of great concern to us.”

The ongoing feud between Wike and the PDP leadership, including former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has been a source of tension since Wike’s loss in the party’s presidential primary in May 2022. Despite his role in the current APC-led government, Wike maintains that he remains a committed PDP member, even as he continues to challenge the party’s leadership.
