Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Not Helicopter Crashed in Kaduna – Air Force

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has crashed in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, contradicting initial reports that a helicopter was involved.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at Taimi village, near Rigachikun, a community close to the Nigerian Air Force Air Training Centre in Mando.

NAF spokesman Edward Gabkwet clarified in a statement that the crashed aircraft was a UAV, not a helicopter. He explained, “A NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission, at a location near Rumji Village and about 15 km from Base. Since it is an unmanned vehicle, there were no casualties on board or on the ground.”

A preliminary investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the crash. Gabkwet assured the public that this incident would not affect ongoing military operations.

In response to the crash, a team from the Nigerian Air Force Air Training Centre and 401 Flying School has secured the area to conduct emergency rescue operations and investigate the cause of the mishap.
