JUST IN: Gunmen Attack Female Students Travelling to School in Kaduna, Kill One, Abduct Six
Armed bandits attacked a truck carrying female students in Akwando village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing one student and abducting six others.
The students were reportedly travelling from Akwando to Kachia on Sunday to resume at their schools ahead of Monday classes when the attack occurred.
According to community member Reuben Buhari, the vehicle was ambushed less than 10 minutes into the journey. During the attack, a student identified as Purity Babangida was killed while trying to escape.
Those reportedly abducted include Augustina Muntari, an SS2 student of GSS Gumel; Happy Muntari, a JS2 student of the same school; Favour Tanimu and Patience Joseph, both JS2 students of GSS Kachia; and Peace Irimiya and Bishara Irimiya, students of St. John’s School, Kachia.
Reports also indicate that the driver, Irimiya Galadima, and two adults, Fatu Danladi and Laraba Caleb, were among those affected in the attack.
Fifteen students reportedly escaped by jumping from the truck and moving through the bush for several hours before reaching nearby communities.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in Southern Kaduna, where communities have faced repeated attacks and kidnappings.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Government and the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack.
