Terrorists Ambush Security Convoy, Kill Five Police Officers in Katsina
Five mobile police officers were killed in an ambush by suspected terrorists in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack took place on Sunday morning as the officers were en route to the council headquarters in Jibia from their base in Zandam village.
According to local residents, the ambush occurred around 6 a.m. Four officers were killed instantly, while the fifth succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina.
The assailants reportedly made off with five AK-47 rifles belonging to the slain officers.
Abubakar Aliyu, the police spokesperson in Katsina, acknowledged the incident but did not provide further details at the time of reporting. A security report obtained by PREMIUM TIMES confirmed the attack and classified the area as high-risk, advising police personnel to avoid the highway.
The Jibia area, along with neighboring regions in Kaduna and Zamfara States, frequently experiences such violent attacks. Terrorists have significantly destabilized these states, including Sokoto, Kebbi, and Niger, targeting roads, farms, and homes, and creating a perilous environment for the primarily agrarian communities.
