Night of Terror in Kaduna: Gunmen Storm Wedding, Kill 13, Abduct Scores
Gunmen attacked a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, late Sunday night, leaving at least 13 people dead and an unknown number abducted.
Residents said the attackers arrived around 11:47 p.m., opening fire on guests gathered inside the venue. Witnesses reported that the assailants, armed with rifles, shot indiscriminately, causing panic and confusion among attendees.
Several victims sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to Kagarko General Hospital for treatment. Two of the severely injured were later transferred to a facility in Kaduna for advanced care.
A local resident, who spoke by phone, said some of his friends were among those wounded during the attack. He added that the scale of the violence made it difficult to immediately determine how many people were taken by the attackers.
A community leader confirmed the death toll and identified the victims, noting that the attackers operated for nearly an hour without resistance. During the incident, shops in the area were also looted, with food items, provisions, and medical supplies stolen from a local chemist.
The victims have since been buried, while efforts to establish contact with the abductors are ongoing.
Residents described scenes of chaos as gunfire spread through the community, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Security sources confirmed the attack but said the number of abducted individuals remains unclear. Police authorities indicated that a detailed report would be released after further assessment.
Officials, including senior government representatives, have reportedly visited the injured victims receiving treatment in Kagarko.
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, where several communities have experienced repeated incidents of violence in recent weeks.
