Easter Attack: Army’s Claim of Rescuing 31 Victims Is a Lie — Kaduna Community
A community organisation in Ariko, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has rejected claims that the Nigerian Army rescued 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter service.
In a statement dated April 6, 2026, President of the Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA), J.D. Ariko, said reports of a successful rescue operation were false and misleading.
“Our attention has been drawn to claims that the Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 31 persons abducted during the Easter service in Ariko. We wish to categorically state that this claim is entirely false,” he said.
According to him, the victims remain in captivity, noting that families are still in contact with the kidnappers, who have confirmed the abductees are alive.
He said this development contradicts any assertion that a rescue operation has taken place.
The abductions followed an attack by suspected bandits on two churches in Ariko on Easter Sunday. Several worshippers were killed, while others were taken away.
The community raised concerns over the spread of unverified information, warning that such reports could mislead the public, create false hope for affected families, and erode trust in official communication.
Ariko urged authorities to ensure that only verified updates are released, particularly on sensitive security matters.
He also called for intensified and coordinated efforts to secure the safe and unconditional release of the abducted persons.
The association reaffirmed its support for affected families and said it would continue to provide updates as credible information becomes available.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official response to the community’s claims.
