Trouble in Paradise: 20-Year-Old Bride Sets Husband’s House Ablaze Over Denied Divorce
In a shocking incident in the Shuware community of the Mubi North Local Government Area in Adamawa State, a 20-year-old bride, Amina Hassan, has been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly setting her husband’s house on fire. The motive behind this act was reported to be her husband’s refusal to grant her a divorce.
The suspect, Amina, revealed in her confession that she and her husband, Muhammed Auwal, had a pre-wedding agreement that he would divorce her after their wedding, which took place just five weeks ago. Prior to the wedding, Amina had expressed her disinterest in the marriage to her parents, but they insisted on proceeding with the ceremony.
Desperate to end the union, Amina sought the help of a native doctor to make her husband detest her and initiate a divorce. The native doctor performed a ritual for a fee of N12,000. However, the ritual backfired, intensifying Muhammed’s interest in the marriage while distancing Amina from her husband even more.
Frustrated by the failed attempt and her husband’s reluctance to divorce her, Amina lost her temper and set their house ablaze. The native doctor, upon learning that his services did not yield the desired results, reportedly fled the area, making himself unreachable.
The Adamawa State Police Command, headed by Commissioner Afolabi Adeniyi, is currently investigating the case. Amina’s confession was quoted by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, who stated, “We made an arrangement that he would divorce me after the marriage. I met him and pleaded with him to divorce me, but he remained adamant. He descended on me and started beating me instead of divorcing me, as a result of which I lost my temper and set the house ablaze.”
