29 Killed as Terrorists Invade Adamawa Community
At least 29 villagers have lost their lives following a brutal attack on Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
According to reports citing local officials and community leaders, suspected terrorists stormed the community late Sunday, firing sporadically for hours, killing residents and destroying property.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri confirmed the death toll during a visit to the affected community on Monday. He described the attack as tragic and unacceptable, while assuring residents that efforts are underway to restore security.
In a statement shared after the visit, Fintiri mourned with affected families and vowed that those behind the killings would face justice. He also said the government is intensifying security operations in the area.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Adamawa has faced repeated assaults from Boko Haram insurgents and other armed groups for more than a decade, with rural communities often bearing the brunt of the violence.
The latest attack comes months after more than 24 people were killed in Kirchinga village in Madagali LGA, where gunmen reportedly razed homes, shops and places of worship.
Human rights group Amnesty International condemned the Guyaku killings, calling the attack horrifying and urging authorities to strengthen civilian protection and ensure5 f accountability.
