ADC Crisis Deepens as Adamawa Faction Suspends Atiku Abubakar, Babachir Lawal, Others

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has announced the suspension of Atiku Abubakar and two other senior figures, marking a new escalation in the party’s internal crisis.

The decision was disclosed on Monday by factional state chairman Raji Zumo during a press briefing.

Also suspended are Babachir Lawal and Sadiq Ibrahim.

Zumo said the action followed consultations within the faction’s leadership, accusing the trio of actions that have worsened divisions within the party. He alleged that they created parallel structures, undermined established authority, and ignored an existing court order.

According to him, the move was intended to enforce party discipline and uphold its constitution.

The suspensions come as the ADC faces a broader leadership dispute at the national level. A rival group led by Nafiu Bala Gombe is also asserting control over the party’s national chairmanship, intensifying internal tensions.

The conflict has been linked to disagreements over the party’s leadership framework, including the role of David Mark.

Earlier, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) withdrew recognition from one of the competing leadership structures within the party.

Despite the divisions, the faction aligned with David Mark says it remains operational and is proceeding with plans for its national convention scheduled for Tuesday.
