Tribunal Nullifies Dino Melaye’s Victory
The victory of the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye has been nullified by the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
In a unanimous judgement on Friday by the three-man panel led by Justice A.O Chijioke, the Tribunal voided the election that produced Melaye on the grounds of irregularities, over voting and non-compliance with electoral Act and ordered for a fresh election.
Melaye’s closest challenger and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Smart Adeyemi has filed a petition at the tribunal challenging his victory at the February 2019 National Assembly election.
Dino who was re-elected to the Senate for a second term has joined the Kogi state gubernatorial race. He was recently cleared by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the upcoming primary election ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
