‘State Capture’: Showunmi Rejects APC Consensus Candidate in Ogun
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Segun Showunmi, has criticised the All Progressives Congress over its adoption of Solomon Adeola as its consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District and is widely known as Yayi, was recently endorsed by the APC as its preferred candidate for the state’s governorship race.
Reacting on Tuesday, Showunmi rejected the process, describing it as an imposition rather than a genuine consensus. He argued that the development raises concerns about internal party democracy and transparency.
The PDP chieftain further warned that the move reflects a broader pattern he characterised as “state capture,” urging stakeholders to resist what he sees as an attempt to concentrate political control.
