Seven Injured as Ebonyi APC Councillorship Primaries Turn Violent
The All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship primaries in Ebonyi State have erupted in violence, resulting in injuries to seven party members. The primaries, which were held in preparation for the state’s local government and councillorship elections scheduled for July 20, were marred by attacks from suspected political thugs.
Despite assurances from APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, that the exercise would be peaceful, clashes broke out in several areas. Emegha had earlier stated, “Our primaries will be free and fair; no danger. I am not envisaging any danger at all. There will be no crisis because we are all one.” Security measures were reportedly in place, but they proved insufficient to prevent the violence.
In Ekka community, Ezza North Local Government Area, a viral video showed individuals with severe injuries. Nwuna Chikodiri, one of the victims, recounted the chaos: “We were asked to choose our councillor and were in the process when thugs loyal to two prominent individuals attacked us. They inflicted various injuries on us. It was Chikwado who hit me on the face. They used a bottle to injure Emeka Aboy. Many people are injured as I speak.”
