Resignations Rock APC, APGA in Ebonyi After Consensus Primaries

A wave of resignations has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State following recent political developments ahead of the 2027 elections.

The resignations came days after a consultative stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Francis Nwifuru, where consensus candidates reportedly emerged for National Assembly and State House of Assembly tickets under the APC.

Among those who resigned from the APC are businessman Chief Christian Asaga Nwali, Chief Chibuike Orogwu, and Emmanuel Ofoke.

In separate resignation letters, the party members cited personal reasons for leaving the ruling party.

Nwali, in a letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the APC ward chairman in Ikwo Local Government Area, said his decision followed “careful reflection” on recent developments within the party.

Orogwu, whose resignation letter was dated March 12, 2026, requested the removal of his name from the APC membership register and thanked the party for the opportunity to serve.

Meanwhile, former governorship candidate of APGA in Ebonyi State and former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bernard Odoh, has also resigned from the party.

In a letter dated May 4, 2026, and addressed to the APGA ward chairman in Omege Ward, Ezza North Local Government Area, Odoh said his resignation followed a period of reflection over his role in the party.

He stated that he had not been adequately informed about developments within APGA despite being a member of the party’s Board of Trustees.

“In recent times, I have not been sufficiently abreast of developments within the party at the level required of a member of its Board of Trustees,” Odoh wrote.

He said stepping aside would promote “institutional coherence and effective stewardship” within the party and create room for more active leadership.

Odoh also thanked the party’s leadership at both state and national levels for the confidence placed in him over the years.

Despite leaving APGA, he maintained that his commitment to the development and stability of Ebonyi State and Nigeria remained unchanged.

“My commitment to the unity, stability, and development of our state and nation remains unwavering, and I shall continue to support all sincere efforts directed towards the advancement of the common good,” he stated.
