Resident Narrates How 34 Family Members Perished in Kaduna Village Bombing
In a heart-wrenching account, Tudun Biri resident Idris Dahiru recounts the devastating toll exacted on his family, as 34 of his kin succumbed to the tragic bombing incident that befell their village. The unfortunate incident occurred during the annual Maulud celebration in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
On the 5th of December, 2023, chaos ensued when Nigerian Army drones, in a case of mistaken identity, unleashed a barrage on the unsuspecting residents who were joyously observing Maulud. The resulting carnage claimed over 80 lives, including women and children.
Dahiru, speaking to the BBC Hausa Service, vividly described the horrifying sequence of events. The initial bomb detonated abruptly, catching villagers off guard and resulting in the gruesome demise of innocent celebrants. As they rushed to assist the wounded, a second bomb from a returning jet compounded the tragedy, taking the lives of many who had selflessly come to aid their fellow villagers.
“My family alone has lost 34 members in this tragedy. We have 66 loved ones receiving medical care at Barau Dikko hospital,” lamented Dahiru, underscoring the magnitude of the calamity that has befallen Tudun Biri.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting questions about the circumstances leading to the military action. The affected residents are grappling with grief, while authorities are pressed to investigate the incident thoroughly. The scars of this unimaginable loss will undoubtedly linger in the hearts of those who survived the Kaduna village bombing.
